2006 Trans problem

Friends 2006 4x4 Auto, is seems to be having a trans problem.
When I changed the water pump, as I backed up, noticed the trans slipping or falling out of gear.
Checked the fluid, and had to add almost 2 quarts.
Had a hard time finding the correct fluid.
Couldn't really tell if the fluid was dark or not.
Didn't smell burnt.
Tried it again, and it seemed fine.
Driving forward, it shifts fine.
Told him about it, and to watch if it happens again.
Called today to see if we could fix the PS leak.
Also said it slipped in reverse once.
I forget the millage on it, but it's under 200,000mi
I'll check to see if any codes are set tomorrow.
How long do these trans last????

Leak in rubber line. Low fluid.
Repaired leak, added 3 qts.
Fine new.
No codes stored????
Wouldn't low fluid trigger a code????

Low trans fluid usually won't trigger a code. FYI, most synthetic ATF's will work fine in the RE5R05A transmission. Valvoline Maxlife Full synthetic ATF is a popular choice and is cost effective at $18/gallon jug at Walmart. If your radiator is original, I would highly suggest replacing it due to the number of trans cooler failures that have occurred in the 05-10 factory installed radiators.

We replaced the Rad when he bought it.
Didn't want to take a chance it was original.
I did find some Type "J" fluid.
Idimitsu brand.
$8 a quart, so not to bad.
