Anyone out there with 96 NAs that has done some work, what state are you in as well? I remember my specialst telling me the JWT ECU upgrade is too aggressive for the fuel used here in California as well. I am interested in going faster and cannot sell this car to buy a TT!

the angle on the flanges connecting the midpipe/cats to the h-pipe differs on the 96 from all other years. the midpipes/cats also have bungs for the rear o2 sensors for OBDII.
if you want to upgrade just the cat-back exhaust, you will have to re-angle the flange.
a much easier approach would be buying midpipes when you upgrade the exhaust (midpipes that have the proper flange angle to match the exhaust). you will have to drill holes and weld on bungs for the o2 sensors, though. if you are going to be buying an exhaust, i recommend specialty z. that's what i have.
i live in Cali and have/had a 96 NA 2+2 with OBD-II. i converted it to a TT with OBD-I.
NOTE: i converted it to a TT before i converted to OBD-I. i did this so i can easily go back to OBD-II for emissions.
