I'm not sure how much radio reception you would get without it but I'm sure if you take the trim piece off of the back side where it is located at you can disconnect it.
It probably is fused with the radio otherwise I would say yank the fuse.
i don't really mind about the radio reception because i only listen to cd's anyway so that doesn't bother me i tried taking the piece that comes off to change the brake bulbs and reach around the corner.....i can feel it but i can't see what i'm feeling so i don't want to yank something and not be able to put it back together.....is there a way to take the whole panel off?

Disconnect the antenna wire that hooks to the radio.
Yeah the antenae is hooked up to the remote wire in the back of the headunit which is usually for a amplifier to kick on only when the head unit is on.
Alpine has 2 remote wires. One for the antanae that only supplies power to the antane when the AM/FM tuner is on and another one that always has power when the headunit is on for an amp.
Cut the wire or install an independent switch so you can pop it up if needed.
You could also install an inline switch, very easy to do. Just cut the remote wire for your antenna and splice in a small switch. Now you can simply flip the switch if you want the antenna up with the radio on or flip the switch to disable the antenna. Easy breezy!
I'm installing my power antenna right now so I'm full of ideas.
