Hi, my name is Frank. I am interested in getting a 300zx TT and doing mod work so that I can have about 500-600 RWHP. I am not to familiar with the car and I was wondering if anyone on this forum could give me some kind of helpful information like what year is a good year, how much I should spend on one, what parts are good to modify, what is a good company to get parts from, how much boost you can put on the engine, what type of internals are good to replace stock, etc........
I would appreciate any friendly comments to get me started. I imagine I will be on this forum quiet a bit getting help. Thankyou for your time.

let me clarify, the 6500 includes the 5k for the car. So 1500 in repairs.

I paid way too much for my TT, but I was basically ripped off. I paid 7k for a '90 I thought had 95k miles, and was in good condition, and within a month ended up dropping 2,900 in repairs to get it safe, and it still has a rear main seal and valve seal oil leak problem, and the carfax report I ran when I found out how many problems it had that the seller didn't mention showed that the odometer had been rolled back somewhere around 100k miles. Personally, I'd stay away from an eBay sale, and any sale where the current owner refuses to take the car to a mechanic to get a full diagnostics before you buy it. Offer to pay for the diagnostics. If they find lots of stuf (as they would have on mine), you're saving yourself more money than you're dropping on the check up, and if they find it's clear, then consider the money you just dropped as peace of mind, or insurance or something. The first steps in performance are intake, exhaust, and ECU. That'll set you back $1,600 to around $2,000, depending on the parts you choose. Cheaper parts can net you less than $1,600, but you won't be satisfied with them, especially wehn you have to replace them to hit the 500/600hp mark. JWT makes the generally-regarded best ECU and intake, and Labree makes a killer exhaust that looks almost completely stock, but with more or less every major upgrade you should consider getting your ECU re-reprogrammed. With a boost controller on stock fuel injectors, I've heard of people running 12/13psi on pump gas safely after intake/exhaust/ecu upgrades, but not more than that, really. From there you'd get a downpipe/test pipe to replace the pre cat and cat, bigger injectors, bigger intercoolers or FMIC, turbo upgrades, etc. Hope that helps.

If you want the best information on a buildup for a 300ZX TT follow these links: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/pr...scc_proj300zx/ http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/pr...scc_proj300zx/
Also pick up this month's issue of Sport Compact Car for an extremely good suspension article to handle all that power. The 300Z project in Sport Compact Car has been my personal build guide for the last few years and inspired me to get a Z32.
Mike Kojima is by far the Uber Nissan builder (I'm just giving you the props you deserve Mike). But Damn it Mike!, Now I have to change my suspension links and bushings to the SPL parts too.

I think he is just in his own little world or at least a state of denial.
I love the Cusco pieces!!
For some reason since they changed to the new catalog my Acrobat won't work with the new font.
Which one are getting the the type-RS or the type-MZ? (I assume the rebuildable mechanical MZ, right.?.)

No the RS because it has much smoother and longer lasting action.

I like the RS viscous too. I just didn't know how it would hold up to the high HP.

Its not viscous, its a 1.5-2 way mechanical with coil springs instead of cone springs.
Mike
Oops, I guess I'm the moron on this thread.
