'90-'96 tranny inqueries

I've been considering buying a '96 non-turbo and possibly taking it to STILLEN in California to get the motor "built" a little. I just don't care for turbo motors. Anyway, my question is this: how well does the '90-'96's (TURBO and NON-TURBO) factory transmission hold up? How about after performance upgrades? I ask because I knew this dude who had a '95 Turbo with a chip and whatever else and he kept on going through trannys. Thanx!

the MT is nearly invincible if you know how to shift. the AT will need to be built along with the motor.

The dude I new had a manual tranny. He still was breakin' em. He claimed to have over 400hp, but I'm not sure if he was full of it or what. I did ride in the car, but he refused to kick it down for fear of wrecking another tranny. Anyway, thanks.
