I have a 91 300ZX. I have a JDM engine put into it, and now it won't start for some reason. My mechanic said that the positive and negative cables were cross-wired on the battery and might of shorted something in the electrical system. That might be the case, but are there any other suggestions as to how I can try to figure out this electrical problem? I'll try using a scan tool as well.
Take a look at the online manual on the sticky part of the forum. I don't remember what chapter that it's in, but there is a part that will have you do step by step troubleshooting if the car can not crank. It will have you pull off the crank angle position sensor and rotate it to verify that the injectors are opening and a bunch of other crap like that. It's very helpful in isolating the problem.
If you think that it's electrical it may be a good idea to double check all wiring. The engine harness wiring diagram is near the end of the service manual. Best of luck finding the culpret.
hmmmm.... I'll try that too. Thats the best way to really diagnose a problem anyway, start from the most simple solutions and work your way up to the hard stuff... I'll try a fresh battery first and c what happens
Yea, with a good battery tho, this one's pretty dead, I can't really do much with a dead battery. I charged it for a few hours and it still goes dead. so imma get a fresh battery first, then I can really find out what the problem is
I stuck a battery in there. The engine cranked over but it didn't start. I don't think it's the starter. It's a step tho. I don't think it's getting any fuel, or the fuel is a year old because it hasn't run in that long. I'll trace the problem tho. Feel free to post any suggestions, second opinions or tricks to help. thx...
There's pressure at the fuel lines... But i've noticed something, one of the serpentine belts is missing...The Z has a 3 belt system right? It's the one that turns the AC compressor and a smaller pulley (maybe the power steering)
Is the belt missing the one that goes on the drivers side near the bottom of the engine? That's the AC belt it also has a small pulley for setting the tension on that belt. That small pulley is inbetween the crank and AC compressor pulley.
yea. None of them made a spark. I don't think i did it right. I removed the ignition coil with the connector and a brand new spark plug attached to it and had my brother crank the engine over and got no fire. I know it's getting fuel; there's plenty of pressure at the fuel lines and i can even smell it. about the belt issue, it's the A/C compressor and the idler pulley. I did a self-diagnosis on the ECU. There was a red light and when i turned the knob it started blinking i don't know what it means tho
I'm a bit perplexed... through all the tests that i've done, None of my ignition coils are firing and i got a code 42 in my ecu. I think it's a bad harness. I could be wrong, but that's the only plausible thing i can think of. I'm going to order a new wiring harness and see how that works...
