my bro was looking to get a 300zx, and I was wondering if it is better to buy a non turbo and then get aftermarket turbos?
or get a turbo or twin turbo and get new turbos?
but I new a guy that had a non turbo and he told me you arent supposed to turbo the non turbo model. or you cant or something.
If you can help me that would be great.
excuse me if I said any thing dumb. I really dont know that much about the 300zx.

IMO it would be MUCH easier to buy a 300zx TT, the stock turbos have a lot of potential. There are some ppl that have got into the 11's in the 1/4 on stock turbos without NOS. The compression is different on a non-turbo Z, what most ppl do to change it to a TT, is a complete conversion, by buying motor from a stock TT and putting it into a non-turbo. I think its much cheaper just to buy a TT 300 and upgrading the turbos if thats what he was planning on. Hope this helps.
What's up bro? Well, it all depends on which body style your brother wants and how mechanically inclined he is to do a TT swap. For instance, in the US, the 90+ Z32 Twin Turbo was ONLY imported as a two-seater while in Japan, the 300zx TT was sold as a Twin Turbo in both the 2 seater and the 2+2. I've seen a few TT conversions for the 2+2 around and I think TwinTurbo Z's of Dallas have a feature on their website about it. Personally, I think the slightly longer 2+2 body looks better than the shorty 2 seater (plus you have extra room inside for that extra T-top.) Depending on how mechanically inclined your bro is, i'd get a 2+2 non-turbo and drop a VG30DETT in it.
(On a side note - I'm dropping a tuned SR20DET in my Z32 at the moment. When I finish, i'll post a site about it.)
he was looking at buying a cheaper one in good condition, just high miles.
and mostly put money into the engine, because I hear the turbos can wear out pretty good.
but he was going to do rims, clutch, bigger or better turbos, and some others.
I like these, plus the cool thing is I havent seen one since I have moved here, not one.

I'm in texas and I've heard few places you can get an engine, I'll ask my brother and email you. Also I think upagrading is a good Idea, you get more if a custom feel. on a side note my brother is car shopping right now, possibly a Z he test drove the new lexus IS sport and got a free subscription to billboard magazine, just thought I'd pass on the freebie.
here are the links where he found the ads
Converting an NA to a TT takes a buttload of work and cash. Since he wants a 2-seater, tell him to buy a TT first.
Upgrading turbos will also cost bigtime, but there are a lot of things you can do to it before getting to that point. New turbos would honestly be one of the last things I'd do. The car has quite a bit of potential and is pretty damn quick on stock turbos. If they've been treated well, they can last a very long time - over 200,000 miles. Try to get a car whose owner babied it. It's worth it.
