Planning on gettin a 300zxTT...some info?

Ive been a honda guy for so long but ive come to love the 300zx and after doin a lil bit of lookin around the TT seems like the way to go.

Ive checked up and seen that the price should be around $15g on average.Give or take a few for mileage, condition and mods.So does that sound about right for price?

Also when it comes to engine swaps what do I have as options? Ive noticed there are a couple swaps available but havent looked into it at all so id like a bit of info on that.

Also id like to know some sites that I can refer to.Basic info to places I can buy engines, parts and mods.

Any other sort of info would be very welcome also.

Thanks

$15k? for what year? that is quite steep compared to prices here in my area. i've seen plenty of '96 Z32 TTs in excellent condition with no more than 55k on the odometer for a little less than $15k. $14,300, to be exact. that was completely stock.

i, personally, wouldn't buy any car that is modded with the exceptions of minor bolt-ons/easily changeable parts.

i don't know much about what engines can be swapped in and out of the engine bay, but i would leave the stock VG30DETT in there. that has plenty of power, and plenty of room to grow.

The best site for almost any info you'll want about a Z32 300ZX is www.twinturbo.net.

As for engine swaps, they're virtually unheard of in the Z32 community unless you're swapping in a new VG30DETT because your old one blew. Talk of converting NAs and 2+2s to twin turbo is common, but rarely done because of the immense cost. There is supposedly an SR20DET swap in a 300ZX in Japan, but it's pretty blasphemous to put a 4-banger in the engine bay of a born 6-cylinder. Even if it is a lighter engine... hehe.

For fair values on Zs in your area check www.edmunds.com, www.kbb.com, and www.nada.com. You'll get a sense for what the cars are worth after looking at some.

Glad to hear your changing over to Nissan. The z32 tt is a great car, i love mine. As for prices it all depends on the mileage. I'm sure you can get a bone stock one with 90k miles for about 9-10 g's. Good luck!

About the "immense cost"... thats not true unless your having a shop work on it. A shop will charge you 4-5k just for the work alone. Z1 motorsports offeres fully built up TT motors and trannys that you can have put in for under 10k by them. Me, im getting a TT clip sent from japan and doing all the work my self.. including add ons and mods to get the car up to 450hp ish, its only going to cost me about 3.5-4 grand. Not bad at all.

Research, compare and research some more. Don't buy the first one you see too eagerly and set aside some money for maintenance/repair. 15k is reasonable for a very well kept and maintained-low mileage TT that's near stock or with a few mods, but that's subjective. Any doubts, walk away, there's a better deal elsewhere. Myself, I'm a purist somewhat and prefer the VG30DETT in a Z32. Good Luck... and nice choice BTW

Where are you getting your parts from?? Thats like the cost of a good set of turbos (Which to get 450whp you will need)

I have spent in upwards of 20K on the Z (engine, suspension, brakes, etc) and just dynoed at 464 on pump fuel. Speed costs money, no matter if you drive a friggen Honda, Fiat, or a Nismo tuned Skyline. All costs money.

Digger- If I were you (at one point I was) I would search all day long on here or go to TwinTurbo.NET - Forums and more for the 1990+ Nissan 300ZX enthusiast. or 300zxClub.com (Nissan 300ZX Forums) - powered by vBulletin and search, search and more search till you bleed Z knowledge out your nose. And the Factory Service Manual is your best friend.

Yah you could easily drop 20k on a Z i knooooww i could, if i had it. Im getting the clip from my brothers friend who lives in japan and knows people... one of his side businesses is importing and exporting vehicles to and from japan. The clip is complete and nothing removed, last quote he gave me was for a 95 TT clip with 35k on the motor with a bad knock sensor for $1600 shipped. This was last year and i didnt have that money plus the other monies you need for swapping.. but now i do so ill be ordering one from him very soon. Ill be posting pics of the swap process and let you guys and 300zxclub.com know how it went and if the clip is quality or not, as i might want to import these on the side.. i know plenty of people who would buy them at $2000.

That sounds like fun. Replacing the knock sensor on the engine will give you a good time to make sure all your gaskets and all that are happy too. Delete the EGR, polish your plenum and general engine cleanup before you drop it will have itlooking sexy! Cant wait to see the updates!

Yah itl def be a good experience, ive done a ton of reading on the process. Yah things like sensors, i will automatically replace since ill have the motor out. Also putting in all new belts and hoses and a 60k kit. Upgrades to get the 400+ hp will be split downpipes, lightweight crank pulley and flywheel, i have a new clutch already that i want to use (not sure if it can work in a TT but it should hold 500hp at least thats what i asked for..), the ECU from Z1 along with boost jets and a HKS catback exhaust. I have a pop charger but i am custom making a dual pop charger for the TT.. that should about get it over the 400hp mark. crossin my fingers. btw, does anyone know how to drain the AC charge when working on the Z? or should i just have a shop do it because i heard if any are or moisture gets in the dryer it will break it.

If you remove the AC Pump from the engine you should be able to leave all the lines in without breaking them open. Make sure with your Dual Pop you get the ECU to back it up. And what do you plan on doing with the Z, Drag racing, street racing? The light weight flywheel is not the best for launching a Z at the strip. Just my .02.
