ok would you guys buy a vg30dett motor with 80,000 miles for $900. the bad thing is the motor has a bad head or something cause it's leaking oil and wont start but the good is it comes complete and with the intercoolers, a boost gauge, a turbo ecu and a wire harness already setup to intall in a non turbo z.
wat should the compression be and the engine is still in the car how would i know if the block is cracked with out taking it out and could i replace it with a non turbo block? oh and yeah i meant turbos thanks.
Compression for any car to run minimum is 120PSI, correct me if I'm wrong..
So each Cylinder should be 120PSI.
If you knew some one who knows something about that motor or any 300zx's they could probably get the head off in. . . 20 - 30 minutes.
And if you knew how to take a motor out you could get it out with the harness and what not anywhere from 1 - 2 hours.
And I think it depends if you can swap it, I know little to nothing about the 300zx's engines. But I'd assume if it was a stock vg30DETT and you wanted to Swap it with a vg30de, you might have to change the intake, and the headers, but I'm not too sure..
i know a little bit where should i look for cracks in the block and should i replace any internal the guy said that he had already rebuilt the motor and replace a lot of parts with new ones. what would cause a cracked block?
if it's a blown head gasket would it just leak oil or oil and coolant cause my stock non turbo motor leaked oil and coolant from the right side of the motor but i saw oil on teh ground under the car that the tubo motor was in.
You could have a bad line some were, if it was coolent, it could be a crack in the radiator. I believe they have a certion spray that you could spray on your engine and when it mixes with coolant and or oil it will show it, and that helps find leaks..

The reason im looking for another engine is beacuse i'm looking to get a new one for how many miles my 300ZXTT may have on it when I buy it from someone. Lowest miles I have seen on a 300ZX 1990-1996 TT is about 100k +
I'm looking to do alot to my Z and if im going to put alot of $ into my car would it be worth the $ just to replace the engine? Or should I just build the engine itself and replace everything.
i'll give you a little of my insight on what you wanna do but remember i'm still new to this too. Depending on your cash flow and time you have available is to what you should do a swap would give you a low mile motor with good internals but rebuilding your current motor would allow you to upgrade internals and replace parts but it would take a longer to complete (depending on your cash flow) than just buying and droping in the motor but shop around a lil more i'm pretty sure you can find another motor for cheaper and since your car is already twin turbo i don't think you'll need some of the extra parts that come in that swap kit like the ecu and transsmission unless you just wanna have those extra parts. The reason i'm looking into a turbo swap is cause my na motor is leaking oil and coolant and the other motor is also leaking oil and coolant (the reason it's goin for $800) but it comes complete and with intercoolers, ecu, wiring harness already wired up to swap into a na, radiator, and a boost gauge i have time and a place to park my car while i repair the turbo motor which will probably take me a while cause of my little nissan experience. hope i help you out and anybody feel free to correct me if you know or think other wise.
well an update on my stock engine i finally raised the car and found that my oil pan had dent and a hole on one side and when i pulled the oil drain plug to drain any remaining oil coolant just started draining out of the oil pan does that mean the block has a hole in it? and would the heads still be good?
