Question Advanced timing???

Ok I've done plenty of research and haven't really gotte any answers to my questions. I wanna know what will happen if i advance my timing and how much can i advance it before it bcomes bad for my engine? I was told by a friend that if i advance my timing it will shift my power curve is that true? thanks to anybody who can shed some light on this question.

The more advance you go the more lean you go. I would not touch the timing unless you have a timing light and have a good ear for detonation. All it takes is a little detonation to go, BOOM!

i've learned alot about messing with timing for performance gains when i was in tech school although, i've never used any of the knowledge first hand and it would be difficult to descbire how it's done and what the effects are. most modern engines are not set up to have the timing messed through the engine components themselves, it is done through ignition timing and fuel delievery with engine managemnt systems.
