I've wanted a 300zx for a long time and finally I'm about to buy one. How reliable are these cars? Anything I should really look out for when buying one? Any opinions/info is much appreciated. Thanks
As reliable as it is maintained and taken care of. The NA is a good daily driver and much more reasonable as far as repair and maintenance costs. Don't expect to get a lot of HP out of it either. Check with your insurance agent for quotes. Maintenance history is a good start, 60k and 120k services, carfax report, flood damage, clear title and of course common sense and lots of research. Don't be so eager to buy the first one you see, test drive a few NA's if possible. Good Luck
also make sure if your going to buy a 300zx from up north you check for corrosion on the bottom and bottom/sides of the car, the salt eats a lot of the undercarriage up. honestly 9 times out of 10 you wont find a 300zx thats does not need some sort of repair when you buy it. so plan on spending some money. but im glad to see your into this car! good choice.
reliability: mines been somewhat "reliable" after i did a rebuild 5 years ago. i am going to do a super rebuild now that i'm having problems with cylinder #3.
on a scale with:
5 - very reliable
4 - somewhat reliable
3 - reliable
2 - not reliable
1 - very not reliable
i would give the car a 3.
me being very mechanically inclined has helped me keep the car reliable. for someone that can't do the work themselves, the car can be a nightmare.
i love the car though and will never ever get rid of it.

I've had my Z new since 1992 and I have not had a major break down. I think as long as you do the required maintenance and don't abuse the car it will last a very long time. Btw, I have 130K miles and my original turbos are now smoking. :-)
