dead cylinders #2,4,6

I have an infiniti j30 with the vg30de the cylinders are not firing but there is feul and spark. I just wanted to know it there is a way to check the variable timing mechanism on that side without having to take the car apart?

If you have fuel and spark then there is combustion. I would do a compression test. Also VT only works when your past a certain rpm (ex. 4K).

ok

the compression is good, but still no power from these cylinders. I had a mechanic look at the car. He said that there seems to be a problem with the valves on that side, not functioning properly. I was wondering if it was worth taking the valve covers or possibly the head off to take a look at the internals, would I be able to look at the valves an see a problem?

Have a blow by test performed to see if your valve or valves are shot?
