What does it mean when they say stage 1, 2, or 3 turbo for the 300z?

It usually refers to the stages that certain companies offer in their performance parts upgrades. Bigger the number the more $$$ you need.

To my understanding, it’s not really a scientific term. I would say, at stage 1, you have a close to a stock level with slight upgrade, and stage 3 should be close to race only intentions. Then they talk about turbo and stage 3, it probably involves capability in the pressure that it can create and volume of air. Basically a size of the turbo. Surely, you can’t stick a huge turbo and run 30 psi on a stock motor unless it’s a stage 3 ……. Motor.

Depending on who you compare your stages with, Stillen, SGP, & etc.

Here is a general Stage Chart.

Stage I. Intake

Stage II. Catback exhaust

Stage III. ECU

Stage IV. Upgraded Intercoolers

Stage V. Boost controller

Stage VI. Larger injectors 555 or larger and larger turbos

Stage VII. Duel intake

ETC.

Forget stages. Whoever thought of the 'stage' scale is a pinhead. Go by what the dyno tell you the horsepower is. It's just as easy to list the mods, as opposed to what 'stage' you are...

Instead, just tell people how much HP you're putting on the ground. Anyone who's not familiar with the Z's goofy 'stage' scale wont get anything from stages anyway.

BTW, good to see you from 3ZC!
