84turbo weird problems fuel / ambient temp related..help?

I know this is my first post, i haven't had any questions. pretty much the search function has worked marvoulsy for me thus far..

Heres my issues.

I have 84 Turbo 2 coupe, it I think has a dying fuel pump.

When the temp is above 38 degrees F and there is less than half a tank of gas in it. over a half it won't do this.. and under 38 degrees it doesn't do it.
but when the conditions apply, under half tank, above 38, -

i drive it for about a half hour, after i try to start it again, there is a rumbling, bubbling sound that comes from the back area (gas tank i'd assume), when it makes that noise, the car will not start. I have to turn the key on, here the noise, then turn the key off, and repeat it until the sound goes away, then it will fire up. but runs a little ruff.. so i assume fuel pump..

I took it to wash it the other day, an i wash it myself, power washing it.. i started it up, and it was like it was starving for fuel, and i smelt a strong smell, that kinda smells like ether.. its all i can equate it too..

I backed out of the stall, and started down the road, and the car just started to sputter, and died when i hit third gear about 2100rpm.. i pulled over, waited for a few minutes.

Turned the key on, i hear the buzz of the fuel pump but no 'bubbling' sounds.. car started..i took off, got up to about 2100rpm in third gear and it did it again. i tried down shifting to see if that would kick the motor on again, no go. just coasted into my drive way.. i opened up the hood, and checked for any signs of ANYTHING being wet under the hood, nothing seemed to be wet at all. i checked under the car near the gas tank, didn't really see anything wet there either..

I am going to be taking it in to have it looked at, but the shop i have to resort to isn't too.. ZX friendly, but the best I have at this time.

I'm moving to Arizona in a couple months and really need this fixed. as its usually above 38degrees there.. So far in the car. i've had to replace the crank angle sensor, before that was replaced this is similar to what was happening before.. an its been running fine until the weahter started to warm up..

Any ideas would be very appreciated.. sorry for the novel but i wanted as much information for anyone that may know to work with.

One More Weird thing - is my speedometer works intermitently(thats not the weird part)
When the speedometer reads the dreaded '0' my decceleration acts funny. when i rev it up through the gears. I go from second to third, and let off the gas an hit the clutch, the car will actually revs up a little an then go down. like its the gas peddle is being depressed when its not. ONLY does this when the speedometer isnt working. it doesn't do that at all when my speedometer IS working, shifts an lets off just fine.. i don't know if that has anything to do with it.
All who post answers seem to be knowledgeable, i'd appreciate ANY help. I am taking the car into the shop in a couple days. anything i should have them look at would help.
Thanks again in advanced. Sorry for the novel.
