Hey guys my name is George I am new to the Z world, but have been working on Honda's for a while now I would like to get an 84-89 300zx but I would like to swap the motor/trans so it is fresh and would like to go turbo. will this motor/trans bolt up? and will I be able to find a turbo manifold for it? if this motor wont fit what motor will without tons of fab work? and where is the best place to get a motor from?
You can make it fit with a blow torch, 2 sledge hammers and a midget with a crow bar. No it won't fit easily unless you are willing to spend thousands of dollars. Forget that motor and build a VG30ET. you can get as much or more power. Look in the local wrecking yards or on craigslist for a turbo parts car. Better yet, when you get your 84-89 300ZX, get a 300ZXT
thnks for the help I am going to take your advice do hve another ? do the make parts to build the VG30ET(pistons, rods) ECT. or do you have to get them custom. if the do make parts can u point me to any good web sites? also I am just wondering where is the engine code on nissan motors?, thanks for the help and ope everyone a a mary christmas
wow great sites thanks for the help. also I am just wondering where is the engine code on nissan motors?, so that I can make sure the car that I am looking at has the right motor in it also is it unheard of to turbo the n/a modle the reson I ask is because the turbo moldes are harder to come by
ZBUM's New Nissan Z31 300ZX Frequently Asked Questions This site will show you how to decode the VIN # and the model plate located on the front drivers shock tower under the hood. Also on the top of the engine covering the intake is a large plate painted red that says TURBO 3000 if its a turbo motor. Just 3000 if its not. Turbo engines have red valve covers, non turbo engines have silver valve covers. Look for a late 87 to 89 Turbo car. They have a stronger motor, larger brakes and suspension, and a limited slip differential.
i may have over looked some things but i think the poster was asking if he could drop a turbo vg motor into a non turbo late 80's 300z car.
again.
ummm?
why would this not work? it's the same chassis. swap out motor, ecu and exhaust. not sure on trans or rear end specs and i assume there may be some differences but nothing a beefed up clutch and some different gears could not fix.
if i am wrong please point out why, but the gist of this thread seems to be "can i put a v8 in my straight six nova"
Is the a wb site that sell older nissan motor swaps (like H-motors on line sells honda ones) so like if I found a non turbo z I could swap the turbo motor. I have see sites the ell the z32 motors but not z31 motors
you prob dont wanna buy a motor off the internet, you gotta pay shipping and such, i live in north florida and i called around to junk yards and wrecker services and i got mine for 667, they had to order it from miami, but i got it, just make a few phone calls, i'm sure someone in your area can get one
also my vg30e max has red valve covers. last i checked it was sans turbo.
What year Z31 300ZX do you have? Do you have a Z31 300ZX? That is the platform stated in the beginning. Is the engine the factory installed engine? I have never seen a VG30E Z31 300ZX engine that was not a turbo with stock red valve covers. The VG30E came in other chassis's too.
