Question Head Lights

My son and I have been working on a project 84 300zx. I have two issues. The low beam headlights do not seem to work. The fuses are good and the switching is good. We are just not getting power to the lead were it plugs into the bulb. Is there something else we are missing? Also, the car has developed an idle problem. It seems to have an intermittent idele between 500-900rpms. It will not stay at 900 rpms. It came back from the tune-up right at 900 and stayed there over a month. Just in the last week this problem developed. Any ideas?

It should idle at around 500-600 rpm, pretty steady. Could the idle air control unit on the intake manifold or the EGR valve on the back passenger corner of the intake manifold. Either one will cause idle problems. Could be other things, including the Oxygen sensor.

As far as the headlights go, it could possibly be a fusible link. They are all gathered around the fuse box that is on passenger panel. Could actually be the switch, I've seen it cause problems in that area before and it's often the last unit replaced. Could be a broken ground, try grounding to the frame instead of the other side of the plug. Could be a broken power wire, but in that case the fuse would blow, and blow instantly every time it was replaced and the lights turned on.

I've been having the exact same problem. As a matter of fact, today I got in my brand new switch, and it still didn't fix. My fusable links look good, but I'm not so sure about the ground thing you said. How would one change the ground on the headlights?

how did you check your fuses? Visually or with a test light? I've seen fuses blown in places that you can't see, and also seen them with such a small gap you have to have a magnifying glass to see it, either way the fuse is blown. good luck

not the fuses in my case. Tested with tester. even switched them out with new ones....still nothing. Would this be something involved with a relay?
