anyone done ECU swap?

Hi, my 86 turbo will not stay running, seems like ECU shuts down fuel and I cannot find the reason--have 2 nissan mechanics looking -- thinking it is a bad electrical connection somewhere. I am wondering if anyone has replaced their engine management sys with something like SQUIRT or some other aftermarket system to bypass the ECU. I am wondering if I could bypass this electrical problem with a new system, or at least install a system that I can diagnose with. Anyone done this or am I way off base with this thinking?

Are you sure it is the ECU?. Did you run the codes? Run the codes and see what they indicate. It also may be the crank angle sensor CAS. When it does not operate properly the fuel pump will not get the signal that the engine is turning over.

Hi, I have had two nissan mechanics take readings from the sensors, and read the ECU. Both think it is an electrical problem--losing ground somewhere causing ECU to shut down fuel, but cannot find where. One nissan dealership told me I'd likely run out of money before they find the problem.
