Car is going Wacko "continued"

Well here's the scoop. I got the call from my mechanic today and he said since the CAT is so close to the tranny, it actually boiled my tranny fluid and now my tranny is screwed. It only goes into drive. So now instead of spending the money on a new CAT he is gonna leave it open and look for a tranny from a junk yard. I just got my car inspected in sept and it has a 2 year sticker so no need for a CAT for a little while. This is rediculous, all started from having a bad thermostat which was probably bad way before i got the car.

Now if my mechanic cant find another tranny from a Z, you think he would put some crappy one from a crap car in it? Or does it have to be a Z tranny?

And I think you need to keep quiet instead of posting BS.

The cat being close to the tranny is not going to boil the transmission fluid. Unless someone removed the heatshield and your car wasn't running properly to begin with. If you overheated, you could have boiled the transmission fluid then.

Also, if you overheat your car for whatever reson and it has an automatic, CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IMMEDIATELY!!! If you don't, your transmission will blow up as a result of the fluid getting overheated in the cooler and burning inside the transmision, and this is bad.

Well if he were trying to make me spend more money then needed he wouldn't of said, forget the cat, and spend the money for a new tranny. He would of tried to make me pay for both.

He's known me for a long time, and knew my dad growing up. I doubt he would try to rip me off. Yeah he is gonna wanna get paid for the labor, which is fine but he wouldn't make me pay for a bad job or unnecassary work.

My only concern is the used tranny he puts into my car. I guess i'll just have to call him and make sure he doesn't put some crap ass tranny in. I was just asking you guys if any tranny would work or would it HAVE to be a similar tranny my car had.

Since ive been driving my car it never got overheated. It actually never warmed up enough except when i drove it in the summer. This was all because of my thermostat being bad. Could it of overheated and me not know it or not show on the temp gauge? Cuz as far as i know the temp gauge always worked fine.
