Sorry for the seemingly simple question but I haven't been able to find and answer anywhere or get my hands on an X-Trail to have a look for myself. I am looking to buy a used X-Trail 2004/2005/2006 and I have a very limited height garage. One of those stupid tandem spaces if you have ever seen one.
Can the standard roof rack mounting strips be removed? Not the roof racks but the rails that run full length and have sections you can take out to fit racks. I want to remove the whole thing. They look like they would come off but I want to know whats underneath? Does metal stick up does it look unsightly with them off?
There are holes in the roof and metal bracket holding these roof rails in place and the paint-work under them is not the finished look (i.e. not glossy). I swaped mine with the hyper roof rails (with lights) and I would certainly not recommend you remove them. Even if you did, they're only 10cm (or less) in height, so I can't see them being that high to prevent you from parking in any garage.

Thanks for the info. It was exactly the information I needed and has confirmed my worst fears. My park space is serriosly tight height wise and in theory it all fits. Removing the bars is the safety net if you like incase I need to gain a few extra CMs. Anyway I think im just gonna go ahead and risk it. I will either have to lower the springs or let some air out of the tyres if it comes to it
