Factory Airbox & Filter vs. Aftermarket Cone Filter & Adapter

Is it true that having the factory airbox is better than having an aftermarket cone airfilter as far as performance/ mileage since it sucks up all that engine heat? It seems that having the aftermarket cone on has IAC regulator malfunction since my car idles at 1800 but jumps back down to 1100 in gear. Or are these unrelated problems?

i had just a filter and adapter on my 93 and it sounded great and might of added power but you really cant feel anything.

but i added a full intake on my 94 and now my car wont stay running, ive tried everything to fix it but no luck.

i would think its two unrelated problems. go with a k&n cone filter over the stock air box.
