Reverse Problems..

I got a 96 altima that i bought as a project car since it was smashed from the drivers side. After fixing the body damages i started working on the mechanical issues. I had to replace both the drivers side shocks and spring as well as the axle, because of the accident it had. After driving around a couple of times I noticed it ran perfect, until I tried the reverse. when you put the car in reverse and step on the gas pedal so it can go back it seems that you step on the pedal all the way back and goes real quick without been able to stop it. when it happend I quickly step on the brakes but the car was still going back and it made a rough noise. It seemed like the gas pedal was stuck, but it wans't. Im not sure if the trans is bad because of the accident it was in or is it something else.

Look for damage on the tranny housing. Something could be bent causing excessive pressures inside the casue. If everything is good then it may have damaged something inside the tranny so you'll need a new one.
