Oil change and thread repair

Need help please. D

uring last DIY oil change it looks like I had put the bolt in an angular way and thus damaged the thread in the oil pan (not the bolt). After today's oil change I can not tighten the bolt. It does not hold and oil is dripping slowly. I can see metal shavings in the bolt. What can I do to fix it?

Went to autozone and they suggested a bolt of next higher size and they did not have it. Same with O'reily's and they gave a red liquid gel to bolt on bolt and that has not helped either.

Any suggestions?

Drive without oil

If I drove the car for just 30 seconds (without any oil and filter) to move to another side to clear the driveway, have I done tremendous damage? Basically, drained the oil completely and found that the bolt in drain plug does not tight and wanted to get another car to clear the way - so just drove for 30 seconds to another side.

Probably didn't do it any good. Should have moved it before draining the oil. If you start the threads on any fastener by hand before using tools on it, then that will ensure it's not cross-threaded.

Going with the next size up, self-tapping drain plug is probably the easiest fix. Good luck.
