Question Newbie to Nissan with ?'s

Hi All

This is my first Nissan product and must say I am pleased so far. I totaled my Ranger last week and needed a quick cheap car and picked up this 95 Altima with 86K for 1200.00. It is in great shape but I have a couple of small issues to resolve and hope you can help. My cigarette lighter doesn't work at all. I checked the fuse and it is good. Anything else to check common on these or just replace the socket? Also I have the AM-FM cassette stereo in the car. I noticed the clock at times seems to be way off for no apparent reasons and the other night the radio and clock did not work at all for awhile. I had lights for the buttons of the radio but not on the display. I checked the fuse and it was good. A little while later it worked fine. Anything on these?

Many Thanks
Joe

$1200 ... sounds like a good deal for that car and mileage.

Check the cig lighter socket for 12 volts with a voltmeter. If no voltage then something is wrong in the wiring. If there is 12 volts then the cig lighter part itself maybe defective.

My 94 has the clock in the dash above the heater controls, so can't help ya there. But it sounds like there might be a lose wire somewhere in the radio department, or there is something wrond internally in the radio.

The cigarette lighter works only with the ignition in the on position.
Check for loose ground wire on the radio, this will cause the problem you are describing.

sounds like someone reinstalled the stock stereo before you purchased the vehicle. maybe the harness was done very shittily and the cigarette lighter maybe not even hooked back up. id start by removing the center console and check all the wiring for connectivity.

the clock and radio thing happened to me, but i found out a way to avoid it. when the car is turned on, if the clock isnt on, turn the key slightly in the direction you would turn it to turn your car off, but not enough to shut it off, wiggle it a little and the clock should turn on, the radio should also work now.
