94 Clutch

My 94 GXE's clutch is shot, at 105,000 miles. This strikes me as young (in mileage terms) for the clutch to go. So my questions:

1. Any ideas on why it might have died so young (or am I wrong that 105K is young)?

2. My mechanic's estimate is about $775 parts and labor if the flywheel doesn't need to be replaced. Does this sound about right?

3. If the flywheel does need ot be replaced, what am I looking at for cost on that?

FYI, I was slow to get the car in for this repair. About 3 weeks ago I noticed odd tach spikes when I shifted. Basically drove it another 300-500 miles or so before it became clear to me it needed to be fixed pronto.

Thanks all.

Looking at the repair records on the '94 Altima I bought used it had the clutch replaced at about 79K, at a cost of about $500. I'm currently at 120K and hope it lasts a long time.

The price for the new system sounds all right if you need the flying wheel it is going to be apr. $200 extra. (this is LA standard)

I was having problems with my clutch, it was simply sort of slippering after being stuck in the traffic. I replaced it all together with the flying wheel for $900. The moment I left the shop it gave me the same problem. Mechanic replaced it again with some other brand he claimed but the problem didn't go away. I was back for the 3rd time. They did some adjustments like longer stick or plug or something (I'm neither native speaker nor mechanics so it is all black magic to me) and it looks almost good. Yesterday when I needed to speed up to get through the late "green" light I felt it again. Here is my question to others, are there things in the clutch system which maybe adjusted?
