97 GXE CEL and Stalling Issues

My 97 GXE manual tranny has some issues. It has 147,000 miles on it.

First is that the car likes cold, dry weather. If there is a large increase in outdoor temperature, the CEL lights up for a few days and often goes out by itself either due to time or a drop in outdoor temperature. If it becomes humid out, once again the CEL lights up and usually stays lit until the humidity drops again.

Second thing going on is that the engine stalls out occaisonally when I put it clutch in as I'm slowing or stopping. It starts right up again if I just put the clutch in again while I'm rolling, or
with the starter. Other times the idle drops down low (say 400 rpm) then comes back up to a more normal value 800 rpm or so.

I was planning to do new plugs, wires and dist cap, but noted a bit of oil on the plug boot and in the plug hole for cylinder #4, so it's time for a new valve cover gasket. Probably about a tablespoon down there, none inside of the boot.

Thoughts on CEL and stalling? Expensive?

Just got back from under the dash with the screwdriver... ECU codes are 0304 and 0701. As far as the 0304 goes, guess it doesn't like the oil in the hole for plug #4 !!!

Intake manifold gasket is leaking. yes expensive if you have a shop do it.

Thanks, had a sinking feeling it might be that. The tranny is in poor shape on this car, too. Sigh.
