Hello!

I am well versed in the VW scene and forums and come to you good folks here at NissanForms looking for some help. I have a friend who needs to get rid of his 1994 GXE (I think, it has an auto trans but very few features) Altima. The car has 148,000km on it and is in perfect shape body and mech wise - minus the blown auto tranny. I found a tranny for this car for $695CDN from a junk yard here in Vancouver, Canada and am debating buying the car from my friend and putting in the tranny. He just wants to get rid of the car at this point and is looking to sell it for $500. Anyways on to the reason I am here asking for help. How hard is it to do a tranny swap on these cars (I have zero exp. with nissans but lots of mech exp. in general) and is this a decent price for a tranny for this car? From searching autotrader.ca it looks like these cars sell for around $4k so if I can get one on the road for under $1500 I figure it would be a pretty sweat deal as I have always been interested in driving a Nissan. Any thoughts, suggestions, comments and help would be greatly apprecaited.

Never replace a tranny. I surprised to hear is bad there very relaible tranny.

$500 for the car sounds resonable. Just make sure nothing else is wrong with it before you make the purchase. Does your friend have any paper work on the repairs?
