I have an issue with valve chatter at constant or lower rpms.... accelerate and it goes away. I done a full tune up plugs, wires, dist. cap, rot. button, o-2 sensor, air filter etc....


only thing i haven't changed is the Fuel filter, but it doesn't sound like detonation it sounds like chatter....

Are there any routine maintenances that need to be performed such as adjusting valve lash etc....



any and all help is appreciated...

I had a similar problem on my 92. I couldn't figure out if it was valve clatter or timing chain clatter. I got lucky though. Found it was the manifold/exhaust shroud that was loose.

took it by my mechanics today, i usually fix my own stuff, but i haven't ever worked on an import before so i figure i will them fix it......


he said it needed one of two things....either a new timing chain and tensioner, or a valve spring shim kit...



anyone had either of these done, how much $... He said he would look at it and tell me what it needed for free....

I have the same problem, it almost sounds like piston knock from detonation and it might be (on mine). But I dont think so, I could hear the rattle begin in the rear and move to the front of the engine. This started a few days ago when the eng was still cold, now it's doing it much more often. Gonna get another opinion tommorrow.

if you have a KA24, it's probably the lifters making the noise, kind of a common problem
