1994 Nissan Pickup - Brakes
I have a 1994 Nissan Pickup. Brakes on this truck are not locking up, however, they engage to the point where the vehicle is very difficult to push if put in neutral and is very noticeable when driving, however, it does not pull to either the right or left.
Originally, I thought this problem to be a faulty cruise control; possibly a short in the servo or module causing feedback to the brakes. When an inspection of the brake pads was accomplished, the pads were worn uneven so it was thought that maybe the brake pad clips were not allowing the caliper to release once the brakes were not being used. New brake pads have been installed and although the problem still remains, the calipers do not seem to engage as tightly as with the bad brake pads installed. Hoses were also inspected for any blockages. None were found.
What would be causing the calipers not to release properly? Is there a time period after installing new brake pads that the wheels do not turn as freely as they should until the pads 'broke in'?
Also, on the same vehicle, the valves rattle/ping when the vehicle's RPM's are less then 3500. Once the 3500 RPM barrier is past, the rattle/pinging disappears. Tried burning a higher octane fuel, i.e., 91, and even though the valve rattle is less, it is still audible and RPM's below 3500. Performed an upper plenum flush as well as an oil sludge additive with no real positive results.
Any assistance on either of these problems would be appreciated.
