Replace starter in 95 pickup

My 95 pickup (ext. cab not that it matters) 4 cyl truck won't turn over. The battery is fine, and I hear a click when i turn the key. I can hear fuel being injected, but it won't crank or turnover. It started cranking very sluggishly the last couple of days and now it won't crank at all.

I'm assuming this is the starter. I'm more of the type to fix things myself, but I've never had any experience working on a car engine. I've worked on my kawasaki lawnmower engine many times, but my truck has been so reliable I've never had to deal with this. To be honest, I'm not even up to speed on all the terminology, so please be patient with me as I am a moron when it comes to this stuff. I'm a computer mechanic, not a car one!

I've heard its pretty easy to replace the starter on a 4 cyl. To be honest, I have no friggin idea where it even is. If anyone has the patience, and the willigness to help out a college student in dire need, (start the violin music here) could you please give me a pretty step by step and dumb down version of how to do this. Or can you point me to where I can research this on my own? Guys I appreciate you helping me out in this bind. (What better time to have your truck break down than right before a hurricane hits. Luckily we're only going to get tropical storm strength winds. If you look at the tracking maps, at the monday AM position is right above where I live)

Are you sure the battery is fine? You could have a dead cell, and it won't provide the proper amount of cold cranking amps to turn it over. The lights and everything can still come on, though, so don't let that confuse you.

I'd have the battery tested, if possible.

How old is the battery?

battery passed test

Took it up to ye ol' wally world and they confirmed it was a good battery. I was hoping it wasn't because its only a year old and that would have been a quick (and free!) warranty replacement to fix the problem. Alas, no dice.

Would it be possible for there to be a bad connection somewhere that would still supply power, but not enough amps to turn the starter over? If so, where all should I look?

Sounds like your starter is gone. Had a similar problem on my Jeep. Should be an easy swap. The starter is either on the left or right side to the rear of the engine. Think it's on the passenger side. Best to get at it from the bottom. Should be 2 bolts to loosen off and a wire or 2 to disconnect. Should be able to swap it in about 30 minutes, if you have the right tools(wrenches).

Have fun!

eeesh

I found it and took the wheel well off. Luckily I had the good intelligence to step away once I noticed how rediculously tight it was. I was luckily able to find a shop that had a slow day and were able to throw it on (reasonably priced). It was well worth the money.

Thank you all for the help.
