Can I change the Vehicle Speed Sensor myself?

(92 Hardbody 4cyl)

Can I actually just detach the speedo cable, pull out the old VSS, and pop in the new one? Or do I have to take apart bits of the truck that I have no business getting near.

I like being a DIY guy, but my abilities are modest.

It's just a screw-in sensor in the transmission. Unplug the wiring and unscrew. Simple stuff, but it's in a tough location to get to, right on top.

Not sure of the exact location itself, but would it be easier and or faster if Scotter, hopefully it's manual transmission, to go through the floor board? Just pull back some carpeting and remove the shifter boot? Just a thought.

I think it's towards the rear of the tranny, not reachable from the shifter.
