I am working on my friends truck. I have it up on stands and got the front rotors off to be milled. I have run into two problems. Here they are.
1) I have run into this before. Every time I have rotors on a spindle I can not remove the inside grease seal that holds in the bearing. No matter what I do I have to destroy the seal to get the bearing out. I still can't get the seal out. I am going out tomorrow to get new seals. Hopefully then I will know. If you know anything about this I would love to hear it.
2) The rear drums are stuck on. I spent 30 minutes loosening the adjuster in the drum. That is a PITA. I still can not get it off. I have tried every bolt I have, but nothing matches the holes in the drum to push it off. What do I need to get. I am going to Lowe's tomorrow to get a socket for the spindle nut, so if you can give me specs I can get one.

1. Are you trying to tap out the bearing & seal from the other (outside) of the rotor? I've had success with that using a brass drift pin.
2. My '04 manual shows two bold holes that are used to push the drum off. It turns freely after you adjusted the shoes all the way in, right? Have you smacked it a few times with a rubber mallet?

What is a brass drift pin?
I need to know what specs I need to find in a bolt to use those holes on the drum. I can not find anything to fit. As I said I adjusted the shoes for 30 minutes and the drumm would not budge. I am pretty sure it is just rusted on there. I just need to know what type of threads of the bolts I will need to push the drum off.
OK, I got the right screws today and got the drums off. All I still need help with is getting that bearing seal out. I have been told a few different ideas that I will try. I am picking up new ones in a little while, so if I have to destroy them to get them out it is ok. I will have the done this afternoon. Thanks for the help. If you have any more advice post it up.

OK, this is fun. I will tell you how my day has been. I went to advance to pick up the inner wheel seal. They showed 2 in stock, but couldn't find any. They assumed that since they had just gotten their shippment it was in one of those boxes. I go through about 20 crates and can not find it. I ask them if they will have all the stuff on the shelf in about 2 hours. 2 hours later I return and they still have not found the part. So I check each of the 40 crates in the store for it. Still nothing. They guess it must be a computer error. They called another store up for me and they said they had 2 in the computer. I asked them to locate the pieces and they only had one. I then head home and call pepboys. They don't have it. I go to the advance auto website and do an inventory search. The first two on the list I had already tried. I called the third closest. They guy said they had the part but it was by another manufacturer. I didn't mind because I wanted it. I make the 30+ minute drive, in rush hour, to get this part. Once again the computer shows 2 in stock but none can be located. I don't get this. How can 4 advance autos have the exact same inventory glitch? By this time I am pissed as hell and cussing my way out of the store. I stop at Autozone down the street. They grab the part and hand it to me. I felt much better until I actually go the old seal out and realized they sold me the wrong part. My God! What do I have to do here!
I get over that and decide to finish the rear brakes. I do one side and get it all together. The drum does not fit! I have turned the adjuster closed until it was squirting brake cleaner. Still nothing. I even blead the wheel cylinder and attempted to compact the caliper. I now have it to a point that I can move the shoes up as high as possible and the drum will fit. Once I have to align with the lugs the shoes spread and lock in. I can not even think of what could be causing this. I have examiened the new and old shoes and found some very minor differances like like the thiknes of teh metal in the backing plate. I don't think it is enough to do this. I am wondering if I missed something. I did not have the rotors turned becuase they don't need it. Tomorrow I am going to do the other side and see what results I get. Can you use a clamp on the cylinder? Let me know anything! I have to get this truck done tomorrow!
