Sticky Callipers

I posted this thread in the Pathfinder section with no luck, so I thought I'd widen the scope a bit...

**************************************
So, I think it's time to re-pad the rear disc brakes on the Pathfinder again - - simple enough. The question I have is what's the best way (product and procedure) to lubricate the calipers. I suspect that they are not releasing as easily or smoothly as they should.

Does anyone have any tricks?

Thanks.

I just pull the guide rods apart, when you have the calipers off. Clean the two guide rods and lubricate with high temperature grease. Make sure the rubber boots covering the rods are in good shape or replace them.

Use synthetic brake caliper grease and give the slide pins a thorough going-over with fine sandpaper first. (like 400 or 600 grit) That should help, if nothing else.

And not too much grease that can also cause the pins to stick. Vacume lock or something like that.

Yup... a simple re-greasing of the slider pins should fix that right up. I may have to do that to mine soon... I think my left caliper is hanging up a bit, but not too bad.

Oh well... if it was mine, I'd do it as routine brake work regardless.

Thanks for the input Guys. I appreciate it. I'll certainly give the callipers a little greasing.
