Hello all,
I have an 01 Pathy LE with SES light on. Went to AutoZone and got codes read. They said P0171 & P0174 (Both, System too Lean, Bank 1, and 2 respectively). I have read some posts in here to find out that my pathy has 4 O2 sensors??? Can someone tell me which ones these codes are pointing to. Sounds like I have one before and after the cat on both sides. Is this right? Also, checking out websites for O2 sensors shows several OEM with different prices, as well as a universal one. Any thoughts on which I should use to replace the current O2 sensors. Any help is appreciated.
Just curious: How many miles are on yours? I've been getting a code recently too (P0160-bank 2 sensor 2). Light didn't stay on though.
I've got 80K miles on mine.
I finally cured my pinging problem. I used two cans of combustion chamber cleaner over a 2 day period. Finally the horrible pinging upon acceleration that had the dealer baffled, went away.
I have just hit 82K miles. I also have a knocking sound upon accecleration, thought this was because of the o2 sensors being bad, maybe getting bad A/F mixture, but not really sure. I have not received very many responses from several of the forums about this issue, so I think I will take a stab at it and do it myself with the OEM parts. I did find out from the dealer that there is in fact four o2 sensors on my Pathy, and they told me all four are different part numbers. Not sure though.

They are all different.
Try running a can of combustion chamber conditioner through the throttle body while the engine is running, and then let it sit overnight.
You will find a noticeable improvement with the ping issue-not right away, but drive the hell out of it for 30 miles or so. It may also make your O2 code problems go away!! It seems to have worked for me. The dealer couldn't figure out my problem, so I did it myself
Took Pathy to dealer to get their 100 dollar diag, did this because of lack of responses on three different forums. They gave me the same codes as Autozone, but told me they pointed to MAF sensor. They said that they would charge me 895.00 to fix it. Said they needed to reprogram the ECU so it would know about the new Mass Airflow Sensor. Told them to pack sand, bought some electronics part cleaner at Pep Boys for 3 bucks, took apart the sensor housing and let the whole can fly on this expensive little sucker. Had Autozone clear codes, SES light is out and truck runs great. Thanks for the advice Athfinder.

My P0160 come up at 100k, now I have P0171. I am reading conflicting info, one says it is MAF other say it it O2 sensor????
I ahve the exact problem on my 01 Pathy. Let me know what you find. The code P0171 is on.

did you fix your problem? I have the same problem. p0171 & p0174. initially it was just p0171
Not yet, my mechanic is not sure if the problem is O2 sensor, air leak or MAF sensor which is big$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. The code reader say P0171 fuel mis too lean bank 1.
Any ideas

I noticed that he check engine light only appears again when I do the first fill up after the reset. Any ideas????
My Pathfinder had been pinging for 10000 miles (since I bought it a year ago). Had engine light on a couple of times, which pointed towards O2 sensor. Never did replace it. So with poor fuel mileage, lack of performance, and a horrible engine ping upon acceleration, I finally had it scanned for codes again and then the fuel injection system serviced at Nissan. The dealer called it a "Moto-Vac" (Decarbs and Flushes everything). The engine is disconnected form the fuel system, and runs for an hour or so on a special cleaner.
I immediately noticed better acceleration, and no more ping. Not sure about mileage yet...
