I just bought a 87 Pathfinder Z24 5spd. And the tranny makes a loud horrible clunking/grinding sort or noise. The guy I bought it from said it was a bearing but Im not sure. It only does it when its in gear and is accelerating.(not when the clutch is pushed in or when i let off on the gas) the engine has 200k on it but its strong and it idles fine. I just wanted to know if I need to replace the tranny or if it could be the clutch. Thanks

Definitely sounds like the transmission to me. If the clutch or pilot bushing/bearing were making noise, it'd be more constant.
