Question Z24 timing check

When hooking up the timing gun, which wire do I attach it to, E1 or I1?

Yeah, I knew that...

...But which one do I use? Does it matter? My Haynes manual doesn't say...

Let me start by saying: this is just a guess (I don't have the manual nor have I ever worked on a two plug design).

Given that the Intake plug is where you get your power and the Exhaust plug is just clean-up, I would guess that you want I1 since you're looking for when #1 is TDC and I would think that'd be when I1 was ready to fire.

I believe on the Z24 engine the intake and exhaust plugs fire at the same time as long as the engine is at idle so it shouldn't matter. Just don't forget to disconnect the vaccum from the distributor.

The intake plug fires for the power/main combustion stroke and the exhaust plug fires for the exhaust stroke to reduce emissions. Use the #1 intake plug wire.
