So, what year Nissan Pickups have what names?

I thought my '88 truck had no desgnation other than "Pickup", But in buying parts I've discovered that it's apparently a "D21". So the other names like 620, 720, Hardbody, whatever, what years do they cross reference with?

Why do they keep changing it?

What do the numbers mean?

I always thought that the D (in D21) stood for Datsun.

320,520,521,620,720,D21,D21U,D22U,D40 are all model numbers, in the early days the vin numbers were like "pl320" or "pl620", the d21 or hardbody, the d22u or frontier, were the first to actually have names instead of just a model number, the d22u is a frontier and the d40 is a frontier but totaly 2 different body styles, does any of this make sense or did it answer any of your questions?

and now there is the Frontier in America but the same / similar truck is called the "Navaro" or "Hardbody" or "Pickup" depending where in the world you are
