We use 87 most of the time... especially now. Get a knock now and then. Mileage is 20mpg around town and 24mpg highway. This is a 2003 Murano SL 2WD with 29K odo...

Thanks, we just bought a 2004 SL AWD 9K miles, will be interesting to see if the mileage is about the same. Only had car for 48 hours so far and we love it!

We have an '05 purchased Thanksgiving weekend! Now at about 5700 miles on it. LOVE IT!! Been using 87 octane and been a little dissappointed with the mileage (16-17ish). Recently started to run mid-grade (89 octane) and starting to see improvement. Getting closer to 20 now. Never heard any ping or knock with the 87, ran great, just better mileage with higher octane.

I'm gonna stick with 89 for a while and see what happends, can't say I believe original onwer as she said she was running 93, I found a several holes in her story about the car. Basically happy though with what I bought for the money. She ruined the painted taking it through the brush type car wash, lots of fine scratches. Thats why I bought used though, arround here (THE RUST BELT) you just can't keep a new car looking new for too long, mine as well buy used and let someone else take the first depreciation hit!
When we picked up the car the computer showed average mileage at 15.8 and she just drove 60 miles on the highway. I already have it up to 18.6 with a steady foot and I have only driven 150 miles, mixed highway/town.
I have an 2004 SL purchased new in Aug. 04. I've been using 89 from the start and have averaged 18.5 mpg after 5800 (mostly town) miles according to the computer. I have a fairly aggressive driving style, so I'm not surprised I'm below the 20 mpg average, but I definitely feel the 89 octane fuel is the way to go long-term.
Is there any problem inherent in switching between 89 and 93 octane or between 89 octane from different vendors?
Interesting. We have a 2004 and when we first got it we ran about 2 months straight at 87, then 2 months at 93 and found no difference. We get about 18-22 mixed mileage depending upon season. We live in the Chicago area and drive fairly aggressively. We continue to only put 87 in it...don't know if it makes alot of difference, but we do run synthetic oil and is always stored in a garage so no need for warm ups most days.

First tank of gas gave us 21.3 mpg (mixed driving) on paper and computer said about the same. I'm running 89 octane for a while.
I have an 04 SL and have run 87 the whole time and get about 18-19... I ran 93 for a couple of tanks and saw no improvements.... Only have about 7500 on it though, I have heard it takes about 10K to get fully broken in...

I was looking back on here and noticed your thread. So I guess you and your wife really like the MO. I'm going to wait a little while longer to buy but I think now it's between the MO and the new Subaru B9 Tribeca. I don't know about the looks of the Tribeca yet with out seeing it in person but it has all the features I want plus some and for a really good price. I can't wait till they come out and see one. I love the interior of them though. Wondering what you think since you guys had a Subie. I'd like to buy a demo next year maybe.
