Whine's & Thumps

I am a new user and my 99 Frontier 4x4 (manual trans.) on occasion has made a whinny noise when I first get moving. As soon as I stop I get a couple of thumps and off I go with no issues. Last night while traveling on the highway I notice the high whiny pitch. I slowed downed to a stop and heard the thumps. As I started up the whine continued. This is the first time it did not stop. Can anyone help?

By new user, do you mean new to Nissan?, to 4x4s?, to this truck?

Whiney noises associated with RPM may be coming from tires (does the whine change pitch on different types of roads?) or gears.

Thumps could be mounts (trans, engine, or differential).

If you're new to this vehicle, have you changed all of the fluids and lubed all of the possible fittings?

Thumps could also be u-joints. Sometimes you can get lucky and hear a thump or squeak in the bearing while the vehicle is up on jack stands or a rack and you rotate the tires (and the driveshafts).

Or, thumps could also be suspension components.

All of these are good possibilities for a 4x4.

Just some thoughts.

Thumps

Thank you for you reply.
I am new to the group. I purchased the Nissan new.
The problem I am having with this issue is that it does not happen with any sort of fequency. I notice only when I start the truck and begin to move from a parked position. (less than 3 to 4 feet) I can hear a whine from what sounds like under the car near the transmission. It reminds me of a flywheel moving with any starter engagement. Within that short distance I slowly brake and hear two thumps as if something was getting back into place. I do not hear grinding or gears. This has happen as long as I have own the truck. It might happen once a week, once every two months, etc. I have taken to a dealer on two occasions and because it didn't happen when it was with them they could find it. The other night it happen and I heard it while driving, I think the radio was on so I did not stop for the thumps and kept driving. When I did stop the thumps happen but when starting to move the whine started as well. I parked the truck at home and I have driven the truck for past three days and have hot hear it again.
I hope this information helps.
