My MAF went out suddenly (poor idle, black smoke from unburned fuel, fuel fouled plugs. Did not go into limp mode however.) The ECM displayed MAF dtc. After attempting to clean, I replaced with the OEM. Truck has run fine ever since. It was expensive, but with electrical stuff, sometimes it's not worth the gamble.

Want to share a good repair source for electronic sensors with the group. Not sure what different types of sensors they can handle, but give them a call. They did me right and saved me about $340 usd over dealer cost of new MAF sensor I needed.
After many calls and searching for a used MAF sensor, I found an electronics repair center that deals with and rebuilds automotive sensors and sent my MAF to them for testing/repair.
The folks a SIA Electronics couldn't have been more helpful. The turnaround time for me was 8 days. I sent the MAF sensor only (not the throat) and they tested, determinded the fault and rebuilt the sensor. Total with shipping was $137 usd. Much better than the $477 usd the dealer wanted for a new one.
Anyway here is SIA's contact info:

You'll talk with Christy or Caci. Either one can help you out. I even spoke to the tech (Chuck) who was working on mine. At first it was showing good, but after I spoke with him and explained the systems, he went back and retested the sensor and it finally failed the 5th time through his tests.
I reinstalled the MAF and was back on the road in about ten minutes
