I have a fairly new to me 1995 Nissan XE 4x4 pickup.
Every time I start up and take off, for the first five minutes or so there is a high pitched whine coming from what sounds like the tnasmission, but it diminishes after that and goes away.
I also have a little clatter from the right hand side of the V6 engine that also rattles on start-up then goes away when it warms up.
You haven't said which transmission you have, a manual or an auto...hard to troubleshoot one or the other without that info.
The engine clatter is most likely broken exhaust manifold studs. Common problem. The fix is to replace the studs with 300ZX turbo studs, they're made of different steel and they don't seem to break like the regular ones do.

I'd say it's either the pilot bearing going out on you or the tranny's had enough use and needs a rebuild. I cannot further diagnose your problems by simply knowing it has a "high-pitched whine".

Sounds like a problem I had with my 93 4x4. It was the pilot bearing going out. I have had that bearing replaced 3 times now. I think for me it is time to totally rebuild the tranny... The rattle at startup could be the little shield on the front of your tranny. Mine also did that.
