Tranny Issue...help please

Have a 1994 Nissan Hardbody 4x4 SE extended cab pickup with 108k on the clock. It has the 3.0 engine and automatic tranny. While accelerating from a stop I notice a clacking sound from under the vehicle. After you have gone a few feet it stops and makes no more noise till you start from a stop (or close to it) again. I know of no other way of describing it but it is only when you just start off. I wonder if it is the clutches or torque converter. This vehicle has like no power on take off anyhow but this noise concerns me as it is not normal to say the least. Any experience would be GREATLY appreciated.

It can't be the clutch since you stated automatic transmission. It could be anything making the noise so to be sure, jack the truck up, drop the rear axle on stands and block the front wheels. From there, ask someone, or if you want to do it alone, start the truck and put it in gear. From there, crawl under and listen for the noise. Oh, make sure the truck is in 2 wheel drive.

...or just plain get under there and eyeball everything. Maybe someone played a practical joke on you and put a long ziptie on your rear driveshaft.
