2005 Pathfinder Pac AAI-NIS auxilliary input install w/pics (that work this time!)

(This is my second attempt at this thread. I apologize for the bad pic links. I couldnt edit my post, so I will have the original deleted. Enjoy!)

I had the problem that I know many people have. You have this mp3 player that has tons of music on it, all my playlists, and I cant even use it in my truck! I have tried fm modulators, but here in northern NJ near NYC, its hard to find frequency that is totally clear. I tried a few different modulators and was never satisfied.

When I bought my Pathfinder, I stumbled upon this board, and found a thread about the Pac AAI-NIS Auxiliary Input (thanks aaxeman).

Its a complete plug and play adapter for late model Nissans with optional Sat radio. Basically what it does is hacks into the input for the stock sat radio and allows you to input through rca cables. You even have two inputs. I plan to use the second for a dvd player down the road.
Its as easy as pushing your radio button till Sat-1 comes up. Only thing I needed was a cable that adapts a headphone jack to two male rca jacks(few dollars at radio shack or other electronics store).

I received the unit and then had to figure out how to get that damn radio out. I downloaded the Factory service manual, but their directions aren't too clear. So I will go through it step by step with pics below for everyone else's benefit.

1. first I removed the tray in the middle of the dash. It just pops up with a little force. I didn't use anything to pry, just my fingers. When you get it off it will look like this. Next remove the screw behind the tray.

2. Then move down to the the cupholders. Pop off the trim around them.

3. turn the ignition on and put the shifter into 2nd. Make sure your emergency brake is on. Take your key back out. Then from the bottom pull up on the trim around the shifter. Work your way around the edges to pull the whole piece off.

4. starting from the top of the dash, now remove the final piece. There are several wiring connections for the temp control and ect. You can disconnect them, or just move the panel to the side intact(what I did).

5. Now remove the 4 screws that hold the receiver in place. The pic shows 2, there are two more on the other side.

6. Now disconnect the 10 pin main plug, and the 12 pin sat plug. They are the two that are empty in the pic below(there was one empty jack on mine, disregard it). The pac unit "jumps" in between the main plug. It basically taps into the power wire on the main harness. The plug that was in the sat jack you don't need. Just tuck it away. Then plug in the one from the pac. don't worry about plugging in the wrong one. They will only fit in the right jacks.

Thats it Basically, just do the reverse to put it back together. Its much easier then it sounds. I was just trying to me thorough.

The only other issue to think about is where to have your plug come out. I used the "cubby" hole in the middle of the dash. I drilled a small hole in the back corner, and fed the wire through there. This way I can push the cable back in to just a few inches of length, or pull it out 2 feet or so.

Any questions or comments are welcome. Please let me know of any errors and i will correct.

Jason,

Nice work on both the write up and the picts (much better than the service manual description). I ordered my AAI-NIS last night.

OK, I have the DVD Nav on my 05 Pathfinder. I've got everything connected properly, but I don't have the Sat-1 on my menu when I press Radio. Is the PAC unit supposed to get warm when it's on? Mine is dead cold & I'm wondering if it's faulty.

hmm to be totally honest, I have never used the in dash nav radio. I would assume it would work the same way.
As far as it being warm, I dont know. I never noticed. I tested that it worked and tucked it away.
I assume you used both plugs right? I guess unless there is something different about the in dash nav. Maybe it is a faulty product. I would maybe try contacting PAC. Unless someone else with better experience chimes in here.

I have the NAV as well on the 05 Pathfinder and am ready to purchase the PAC AAI-NIS. Is there anything, in addition to the directions and pics, that I need to know about getting behind that NAV system on the dash?

Thanks!

Here are some pics from my install with the DVD Nav. It's as simple as yanking the dashboard apart. The radio requires a phillips for the 4 screws. I had it installed in 15 min. Well, I haven't heard back from PAC yet. I hope I just received a faulty unit.

Jornum - you're a lifesaver, I've been all over the internet looking for someone who did this. Great post, excellent pics. I have one question.

Do you have any idea if it would work with a Satellite radio. I'm currently using my Sirius Sportster through the FM modulator and would really like to hardwire it right into the radio.

Regards

I see that you were able to pop off the tray without tools. I pretty much yanked as hard as I dare and couldn't get that thing to budge. Do you have any tips? Thank you.

I dont remember doing anything special to get the tray off. If you look at my first second picture, you can see where the 4 spaces are that the tray catches on to.
I think I pulled the side by the windshield up first. I dont think I had too much of a problem with it. Just try from different angles.

About the sirrus sat radio. I would assume you have a rca cable output on the sirrius, so just hook that up to pac, and it should work the same.

I installed my AAI-NIS this morning. Getting the dash apart was a breeze - everything came apart with a minimum of effort and only a philips head screwdriver. Pretty amazing .

I decided to mount a pair of panel mount RCA jacks (with RCA's on both sides, so no soldering involved) on the side of the "cubby" hole. So I removed all the electrical connectors from the panel so I could take it to my workbench to drill the holes. I drilled a pair of holes large enough to insert the RCA jacks (which I stole from a wall plate I purchased at Radio Shack with red, white, and yellow RCA jacks) on the passenger side of the panel - there appeared to be less room to work with on the other side. With a cable connected, there's just enough room to manipulate the panel back into place while putting everything back together.

Before putting everything back together, I confirmed that the aux input was working with my iPod. Works just as advertised.

After I put everything back together, I started the engine up to go run an errand and my air bag warning light is now flashing slowly. I took the dash apart again to make sure I didn't forget to reconnect anything, but all appears to be connected properly. I'll start a new thread for this, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate hearing them. Short of clever ideas, I'll have to get it into the dealer sometime next week if they can fit me in.

Will this mod work for the 2002 Pathfinder with the Bose 6CD changer?

Greynolds - the same exact thing happened to me. I brought it to Nissan and played stupid. The diagnostic came back as an unexplained event and automatically reset the light.

When I hooked mine up I disconnected all the wires attached to the climate control, airbag light, etc. I'm thinking that it somehow tripped something.

Let me know how it works out for you.

Thanks for the reply. It's going to the dealer in the morning. I'm pretty sure that disconnecting the airbag light is the culprit .

My airbag light came on as well. I'm sending my AAI unit back in. I don't get a red light on it...so it must be faulty. I think I'll wait till I get the replacment before I go to the dealer for the airbag light.

why don't you guys just disconnect the negative battery cable and push the brakes for like 30 seconds and the reconnect the neg. This should reset the PCM/ECU and reset all faulty codes.
