Hey guys. I just picked up my second Pathfinder... an automatic XE-V6 4wd with about 123k on the clock. Truck is in great shape and runs wonderful... but when I sit in any kind of traffic the CE light comes on but when I hit the open road for a few minutes it will turn off. Any ideas? Anyway I can pull codes on it by myself? THANX!!! Oh yeah, I'm a newb here...
OK, so I realized that there was a thread on how to check the codes and I did so... its giving me a 12 which is mass air flow sensor... What do I need to check???

Well... I pretty much got that part... but how can I tell if anything is wrong with it??? The truck runs great, all the connections are OK, so is there anyway to test it???

Look for a red wire inside the MAF sensor. If the wire is broken, then time to get a new one.
If you will do a search here in this forum for Mass Air Flow, or MAF you will find some information on how to check and possibly clean the Mass Air Flow Unit.
I just went outside and cleaned mine. It was easy ! just 2 scews and up it comes out. Then just rub GENTLY with rubbing alcohol I used 70% but the write up says 90% i dont know where to find 90%
here are some pics of what came off. I hope i pick up a few MPG.
Well, I cleaned it and checked it... still getting an engine light. Should I suck it up and get a new one? Is there anything else that could trigger that code? Like I said, the only noticable problem with the car is an occasional rough idle...
Replace all the vaccuum lines and give it a tune-up. There are entirely too many things that can cause that kind of problem without ruling out all the new parts.

Try running a totally new separate ground wire to the MAF. I've heard of that helping for a few people.
