05 Xterra Pricing Announced

Not sure if this has been posted already but (from www.nissannews.com):

Nissan Announces Pricing on All-New Second Generation 2005 Xterra SUV [Feb. 9, 05]

GARDENA, Calif. (Feb. 9, 2005) – Nissan North America, Inc. today announced pricing on the revolutionary 2005 Nissan Xterra SUV. The all-new 2005 Xterra, which is scheduled to go on sale at Nissan dealers nationwide February 11, offers improvements on virtually all functional and user attributes with more power, more roominess and more features, including enhanced off-road performance systems.

The 2005 Xterra will be offered in three trim levels – S, Off-Road and SE. Each model comes with a standard 4.0-liter 265-horsepower V6 and is offered in both 2WD and 4WD. Starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the Xterra S 2WD M/T is $20,800. The Xterra Off-Road model with 4WD M/T features a MSRP of 25,500, while the SE 2WD A/T features a MSRP of $25,300.

Complete pricing and option packages are available on the attached sheets.

The 2005 Nissan Xterra continues the theme of the original – everything you need, nothing you don’t. But now truer than ever. The enhancements for the second generation Xterra, all in keeping with the spirit of the first, include a redesigned interior and exterior, new engine and platform.

The new Xterra utilizes a modified version of the F-Alpha platform, developed for the full-size Nissan Armada and full-size Nissan Titan pickup, tailored to suit this application. For its use in Xterra, the platform utilizes an independent double-wishbone front and solid axle leaf spring rear suspension, standard 4.0-liter DOHC V6 rated at 265 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque, and a choice of 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmissions.

The 2005 Xterra is offered with an available enhanced off-road system. The part-time 4WD system includes 2WD/4HI/4LO modes and electronically controlled transfer case. A Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system is also available, along with other advanced off-road capabilities.

Xterra’s new exterior styling evokes that of the original, including a highly functional roof rack (now with covered gear box). Inside, the 2005 Xterra offers more room, especially in 2nd row head room and leg room, and enhanced utility of the multi-flex cargo area – including an Easy Clean Cargo Area and a Utili-TrackÔ channel system in the cargo floor.

“When Xterra debuted in 1999, it truly set the mark in terms of its combination of outstanding purposeful unique styling matched with practical size and functionality,” said Mark McNabb, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. “The all-new Xterra follows this path with an even more capable, more powerful and truly authentic SUV built specifically for the needs of the core outdoor enthusiast.”

In North America, Nissan\'s operations include automotive styling, engineering, consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution and manufacturing. I don't get it. If you goto Nissanusa.com and build a 2005 Xterra SE with most options, it comes out to $29,200ish.

If you build a 2005 Pathfinder SE with everything except the premium package (auto headlamp and sunroof, both of which the Xterra do not come with), it's $30,000ish.

So similarly configured Xterra and Pathfinder SE's only differ by $800.

Considering that both SUV's are based on the F-Alpha plateform (same frame and body), and they both have same VQ40DE engine, same 5-spd Auto Tranny, and both have same 4X4 transfer case, doesn't it make sense to pay extra $800 and get 3rd row seating plus 5 more HP of the Pathfinder SE???

The Xterras have a lot more 'utility' features, more aimed at the 'off-roaders' or what have you. The ride is different, much more truck-like than the Pathfinder's independent suspension. Just different markets. Besides, you can get a base Xterra for much cheaper than a base Pathfinder, and I bet that's where the Xterra's more aimed at... 4-5K difference.

I'm thinking very seriously about the 05 Xterra... I've never owned a truck or SUV before, but I am just really interested in exactly that: "the utility" ... not really the "offroad" part, but I would like to be able to tow my motorcycle at some point, and maybe a bass boat.... use it for fishing, camping.... the rest of the time it'd just be a daily driver. It's at the top of my list after having checked out (casually) all the manufacturers....

After driving an Acura Integra GSR 5-speed for 5 years, I'm really excited about something more "practical" ....

Can you explain what you mean by "truck-like" in layman's terms? Does it handle badly, or feel super stiff?

Thanks a lot.

you need to test drive if you dont know what truck like feels like... its a lot different then a car.. harsher bumpier ride, not holding the road like it was on rails, higher up. etc...

btw what kind of bike and what year?

yeah, test-driving is the only way to get it down. Personally, I absolutely love the feel of the Frontier NISMO (off-road shocks) a hell of a lot better than my old Armada's more 'carlike' ride. it's all a matter of taste really.

Hmmm ... I wonder what the difference in ride is between the SE and the Off-Road (with the bilstein shocks), and if it's worth test driving them both. But if I got the Off-Road version as just a daily driver, then the hardcore off-roaders would really be upset...

Oh by the way: a bud from work bought an 05 Pathfinder LE -- and I took it out for a quick spin... so I have that as a frame of reference... I loved it...

the only other real frame of reference I have for a larger vehicle is when I sometimes take my dad's old Dodge Caravan to the convenience store in a pinch, which feels like I'm driving a ocean-liner / hover-craft...

I test drove the Nismo one day, then the LE followed by the Nismo again a few days later. There's a BIG difference, and it's definately worth driving them both, even if it annoys your salesman (my dealership tried to kick me out once for test driving too many vehicles, lmao - but hell, when you're paying 30K for a vehicle, you better like it, right?).

I'll never take my Nismo off-roading above the occasional dirt trail or fun mud spot... but hell, at least I'll be prepared right?
