I need some information regarding the 91 SE V-6, King Cab 4WD model. I recently had my 95 4WD XE Pathfinder stolen. Police found it yesterday and it was totaly gutted. So insurance will hopefully write it off as a loss.
I am looking at buying a 91 SE V-6, King Cab 4WD, only 126,000 miles, interior is excellent condition, no sun damage or cracked seats, carpeting is great (no rips or wear through areas), dealer put a new paint job on it because he said it was oxidized, good rubber all around and everything appears to be working great. I did not see any oil leaks under the vehicle or on the ground. Dealer put on new belts, air filter, fluid change, and I also saw a tag under the hood that said the timing chain was replaced in 1999. The truck bed was not all dented and scratched up,(it was not painted) and looked good. I live in tucson Arizona, so rust is not an issue. The exterior was not dented and all the lines lined up so I suspect it was never in an accident. From looking at the underside of the truck it appeared that it was not taken off-road and beaten up.
I test drove it and it was a good ride, steering felt tight and at highway speeds (85 MPH) it did not shake. Cruise control worked and the 4WD system worked fine. All the dash board gadgets worked and the air conditioning was icy-cold.
What is the group concensus regarding this vehicle. I searched online and saw that there were some noted problems with the timing chain. But the overall survey was good for the vehicle. Additionally, the dealer will let me have it for $7,500 out the door (posted price was $7,999). Kelly blue Book is $3,000 - $3,550 for the vehicle.
My question is: Is this vehicle in this condition worth $7,500 from a dealer?
It's been worked on, yes.
It's been painted, yes.
It's in great shape, yes.
It's worth $4500 more than KBB as a result? NO. Not unless they want to offer some sort of extended warranty for it and you REALLY want it. It still has more than 100K miles and is more than 12 years old.
By the way, that engine has a timing belt, not a timing chain.
