I'm looking to trade in my GTI on a pathfinder. I've previously owned a 2000 XTerra, and a 2001 Altima. I'm a Nissan fan I guess you could say. Anyways here is the information about the truck. My questions are:
1. What should I offer on it?
2. What problems if any should I know about with this year pathfinder?
3. Is there any reason I should opt NOT to go five speed (transmission issues)?
4. Anything I should ask about whether or not it has been replaced, fixed, etc?
Thanks in advance!
Year: 2001
Make: Nissan
Model: Pathfinder
Trim: SE
Exterior Color: Maroon
Brown's Price: $15,981
Mileage: 38346
Transmission: 5-Speed (want a five speed)

I'll sell ya mine for less than that
on your questions:
1. I'd offer 14,5.
2. I don;t know of any other then it seems the sensors seem to go out after a certain mileage. Vibration in steering wheel.
3. No. I have a 5 speed as well. Seems fine at 67K.
4. Sensors, exhaust manifolds, shocks, struts, brakes, tires, the usual suspects.
Yep,
Price is Steep. Even for such LOW miles. Yet, they can probably get close as the rarity of the V6 w/ Manual and miles.
As comparison, sorta, our 04 X with Competition PKG, 4x, Protection PKG, Light PKG, V6 and 13900miles on the ODO was $19,900 TL, out the door. See if you can get the DLR to throw in the 100,000mile/7yr warranty at his cost. Every little bit helps

I agree with the sensors and the vibration since those are pretty much the problems that have plagued my '02. I have about 47k right now.
"Row-your-own" Pathys with VQ35DE engines are very rare indeed. Considering that it is a truck with a manual transmission, do expect long throws and at-times notchy engagement. But who cares, it's a great stress-reliever for me after a long day's of work!
I think I mentioned in another thread that the 2005 Xterra could be a good alternative. It comes with a 4.0L V6 and a 6-speed manual. I'd be curious to find out if there are people in this forum who have already tested one out.
Does it have auto windows? My 01 Pathfinder's window mechanisms are flaky. The operation is VERY slow (especially on the rear windows). I am not sure why?
I just had to replace a faulty ignition coil on cylinder #1, but I have 56K.
The manual tranny is nice, but they will tell you that you cannot tow as much as with the automatic. Are you planning to tow a lot?

An 01+ Pathfinder with a 5 speed is more than just a Civic Killer
Most other SUV's in comparable class are hovering around 200 hp. If I'm not wrong the 4runner still only had 190 up till the redesign (I think). My neighbor has a last gen 4runner and he put the factory supercharger on it. Much quicker now, but before, I would have easily "killed" it from the line.
saw one at the strip run a 9.3 1/8th. not to shabby, the reason i say Civic killer, thats what was written on the back window in shoe polish! funny stuff.
2fastdre brought up an important point on the tow rating. VQ35DE-equipped Pathy's with manual transmission are only rated at 3500 lbs, while the slushbox can haul a solid 5000 lbs. Also, you'll notice that the torque rating is considerably lower in the 5spd - 240 vs. 265. The manual Pathys do come with 10 more ponies at 250 hp. According to Car and Driver (June 2000), Nissan had to do these performance restrictions (if you will) due to durability issues with the tranny.
As for performance, these PF's range from 9.2 seconds to 60 mph for the automatics (LE's) to 8.4 secs (SE auto, 4x4) to 8.1 (SE manual, 4x2). One of my memorable matches was with a last generation Integra GS-R. It was easy to get ahead with the low-end torque, but when his VTEC kicked in, I could see his front bumper quickly gaining from my rear quarter window. I had to shift at 6000 rpm to stay ahead of him. I knew on paper he could have easily kicked my rear, but sometimes it is the way you shift that does it. It's funny how quickly he mellowed out in the next stoplight.
Yes, nobody is supposed to race their SUV's, but these rigs are getting faster and faster each year. If you know your caliber, they're great sleepers!
