wire help

I have an 01 pathfinder and I wired it for a hitch. I plug in my trailer lights and my the lights on the trailer work fine when the headlights are off. The turn signals work and the brake lights work. When my headlights are on, none of the trailer lights work, any ideas? Thanks

I used my wire tester and with my lights on I am getting the write amount of power. Once I plug the light assembly back in they dont work with the lights on. I can't figure it out.

Have you checked to see if you have a good chassis ground for your hitch harness. Sometimes you have to scrath the undercoating off the frame to get a good connection.

Well... It sounds like your brake/turn lights are grounding through the clearance light circuit on the car. It's a guess, but it's the only logical explanation. A quick test might be to press the brake and observe the clearance lights on the front of the car with the trailer harness connected.

The clearence lights stay on correctly. I grounded my hitch harness right next to another ground. It has some black paint on it, but probably not enough to effect it.

Thanks for everyones help, I got it figured out. While I was checking my lights I never had them mounted to the trailer they were just sitting on the bed. I then mounted them and they worked. They had to be mounted so they would be grounded. Stupid Me! Thanks for your help!!
