undefinedI OWN A 87 PATHFINDER AND IT STARTED SMOKING THE OTHER DAY WHAT IS WEIRD IS IF YOU TURN A CORNER IT REALLY SMOKES!!! COULD IT BE THE VALVE STEM SEALS OR WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK? ITS IN GOOD SHAPE ONE MECHANIC SAID THE MOTOR WAS BAD AND HE COULD FIX IT FOR 1200.00 DOLLARS! I WENT TO START IT A WHILE AGO AND IT DIDNT START SMOKING TILL IT WARMED UP, THEN IT WASNT VERY MUCH SO I DROVE IT AND TURNED THE CORNER AND IT SMOKED REAL BAD THEN QUIT. SOME ONE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO OR IF YOU EVER HEARD OF THIS . IT HAS 123000 MILES ON IT, IT SHOULD GO TO OVER 200,000

What color is the smoke? Usually, if the valve guide seals go, it will smoke upon startup after the vehicle has sat for a while.

Also after its warmed up it will smoke during start up

How's the oil level holding?
Have you checked the spark plugs to see if any are oil-fouling?
How are the PCV and EGR valves?

Is it an automatic transmission?
If so, and it has a vacuum modulator, the modulator might have gone bad and you could be sucking trans fluid up into the engine.

$1200.00 for an entire engine rebuild (head(s) & bottom end) sounds like a good price, but may be unnecessary.
