Exhaust - Leaky manifold gasket - 2001 v6

2001 Frontier 3.3 V6, Non super charged.

Ohh yeah,,,

I have an exhaust leak on my passenger manifold. I havent had this truck for very long so I dont know it inside and out yet.... Has anyone removed the manifolds ? What is the easiest way to go about it ? Tips ? Tricks ? Hours ?

It looks VERY tight. Thats why I wanted to ask first :-)

Dealership said "Urhmmm, durrrhhm, you have a cracked manifold and its not covered by your warranty - your warranty only covers gaskets, so, urhmmm, its gonna cost you $786 and we have to drill and tap 4 bolts"

Basically what they told me was (Translation
"I dont want to do this, because its gonna take me two days and piss me off, so, unless you pay out-of-pocket for me to write off a larger invoice and make more money for my time, then i'm just gonna keep lying to you about everything that I can possibly make up"

LOL

"Cracked manifold" and "Tap 4 bolts" - Yeah right - YOU CANT EVEN SEE THE MANIFOLD OR THE BOLTS. How does he "KNOW" 4 of them are going to break ? HAHAHA

Anyways, thanks.

It seems to be a common problem on the vg 3.3 engine. My dads 01 supercharged crew had to have both manifolds replaced at around 70k. Does your truck have a extended warranty?
Both of his manifolds were covered under the powertrain warranty which is 100k for his. They also replaced the knock sensor but other than that it has been very reliable.
I would try to find another dealer. The new manifold are supposed to be better units. I guess well see in 50k or so.

1st of all, the exhaust manifolds are covered under the 5yr 50,000 mile warranty, so if your under... tell them to fix it! if you are over, the manifold runs $72 about $11 in gaskets and if needed the studs run about $2ea

Hrmm...

Right right, but here is the thing ...

I bought it used "as-is" no warranty, 80k miles.anty.

I didnt want an extended warranty, Not for $2000, they could shove it.

BUT, The salesman managed to reduce my interest rate, and include the warranty "for free" - Came out to be the same end price but with a warranty instead of high interest. SO, my warranty covers me to 130k miles now.

When I took it back to this dealership, I was told that my extended warranty covers only gaskets and seals. I didnt care, I left, because I didnt want the warranty in the first place.

So Im gonna fix it myself I guess. Just wanted to know what to expect before I start (You know, IE: "you gotta remove the front right suspention to get the manifold out" or whatever, know what I mean ?

Thanks for the replys.
