2001 Frontier - Timing BELT or Chain ???

I was told by two different people, before I bought my used Nissan, that 2001 Nissan models switched to a timing chain instead of the belt.

On a parts search today, I came across listings for 2001 Nissan Frontier V6 timing belts.

2001 Frontier 3.3 v6, Belt or chain ?

I have 80k miles on my truck, should a belt be replaced soon ?

Check your owner's manual page 9-8, you have a timing belt that should be replaced at 105k miles.

My understanding of the '04 model (which I have) is that the 4-cyl has timing chains and the V6 has a belt(s).

That's pretty cool if the belt is good for 105k miles Most of the older vehicles said 60 or 80k.

My guess would be YES, but does anyone know if the 4-cyl or 6-cyl engines have "interference" if the timing is off. That is: If the timing belt breaks or slips and the timing is thrown off, can the valves and pistons meet?

Yes, here's the caution statement in Nissan's timing belt change procedure:

"After removing timing belt, do not turn crankshaft and camshaft separately because valves will strike piston heads."

Man, I just jumped right into a fix-er-upper :-)

Exhaust manifold leak, almost dead timing belt... Ohh well.

Just FYI: I've read everywhere that FRAM oil filters suck. The last two oil changes I made I used FRAM. Guess what ? It makes my engine tick when starting. FRAM sucks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
